A timeless Enchantment

Let yourself be transported to an era of timeless refinement in the heart of Burgundy, where the Château d’Épinac stands majestically as the guardian of centuries of history and tradition. This 11th-century architectural jewel, set within a 4-hectare private park, is more than just a castle: it is an experience that awakens the senses and nourishes the soul.

From its privileged location in the renowned Saône-et-Loire wine region, the Château d’Épinac elegantly dominates the Drée valley, offering its guests panoramas that seem to have been painted by a divine hand.

Here, time flows at a different pace, marked by the succession of seasons that transform the landscape into a living canvas:

  • In spring, the shoots of the vineyards dot the hillsides in soft green.
  • Summer sees the lush rows stretch as far as the eye can see beneath the golden sun.
  • Autumn dyes the slopes in red and gold, while the air is filled with the scent of ripe grapes.
  • Winter envelops the castle in a magical silence, offering crystal-clear views of the sleeping countryside.

Just a short distance away, a world of wonders awaits discovery:

  • Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, with its multicoloured roofs and iconic Hôtel-Dieu.
  • The Morvan Regional Nature Park, where ancient forests guard secret paths and hidden lakes.
  • Picturesque villages where time seems to stand still, with their cobbled squares and Romanesque churches.
  • Centuries-old abbeys that still echo with the Gregorian chants of the monks who inhabited them.

The strategic location of the Château d’Épinac, easily accessible from both Paris and Lyon, makes it the ideal starting point for exploring the treasures of Burgundy, while remaining a haven of peace and tranquillity where one can recharge after any adventure.

The Castle

Crossing the threshold of the Château d’Épinac is like embarking on a journey through almost a thousand years of French history. From the moment its first stone was laid in 1050, these walls have witnessed a succession of epochs and personalities that have shaped the destiny of Burgundy and France as a whole. Among its illustrious inhabitants is Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, whose visionary spirit left an indelible mark on this extraordinary residence.

The architecture of the castle is a symphony of stone and light, where each element tells a story:

  • Two imposing main wings rise majestically, arranged at obtuse angles as if in a protective embrace.
  • A polygonal turret, a gem of medieval engineering, houses a spiral staircase that seems to dance toward the sky.
  • Two 14th-century square towers, silent sentinels five storeys high, keep watch over the four cardinal points.
  • The north-western tower, the oldest, still retains the original drawbridge gate, a silent witness to sieges and celebrations.

A meticulous restoration, culminating in 2005, returned the castle to its former glory, preserving historical authenticity while thoughtfully integrating modern comforts.

Inside, each room is a tribute to medieval art and craftsmanship:

·       Finely chiselled bas-reliefs tell stories of battles and courtly love affairs

·       Decorative friezes chase each other along the walls, capturing the light that filters through centuries-old windows

·       Monumental fireplaces, once the beating heart of castle life, now create an atmosphere of intimate cosiness

  • Carefully selected period furnishings tell stories of craftsmen who dedicated their lives to beauty.
  • Original architectural details, such as gilded mouldings and stone rosettes, evoke the grandeur of a bygone era.

Burgundy

Where history is celebrated in every glass

In the heart of France lies a land where history is intertwined with the vine, where every stone tells a thousand-year-old story, and where the art of wine reaches its highest expression. Burgundy, more than just a region, is a journey through the senses, time, and culture—a place where centuries-old traditions blend harmoniously with the sweetness of life.

The vineyards of Burgundy are a living symphony that changes with the seasons. From spring to winter, the landscape transforms into a kaleidoscope of colours: the first green buds give way to the sun-blistered bunches of grapes in summer, while autumn paints the hillsides with brushstrokes of gold and crimson, before winter envelops the dormant vines in a silence full of promise.

In this unique terroir, where each plot of land tells a different story, wines of extraordinary elegance are born. Chablis, with its crystalline minerality, reflects the limestone soils on which it grows, while in the Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir reaches unparalleled heights of refinement. Further south, in the Côte de Beaune, Chardonnay expresses itself in wines of astonishing complexity, and in the Mâconnais, generous vineyards capture the essence of the southern sun in every bunch.
